Hertford Regional College have partnered up with Citizen Maths, a free online resource for those who want to improve their grasp of maths at Level 2.

The college will be encouraging Maths students studying Level 2 Functional Skills or GCSE to use Citizen Maths as part of their studies.

Citizen Maths is designed to make learners feel that they are in a one-to-one with a helpful and skilled teacher. It uses short video lessons, demos and online apps to help the learner to try things out. It is based on solving the kind of problems that come up at work and in life.

Magdalena Johnson, Head of Department – English and Maths at HRC, said:
“We are very pleased to be embedding Citizen Maths into our courses at Hertford Regional College. The online resources are very engaging and of a fantastic quality, and most importantly, our students will be able to extend their learning of maths beyond the traditional classroom.”

Citizen Maths Project Director, Seb Schmoller said:
“We are delighted that Hertford Regional College will be encouraging students to make use of Citizen Maths. My team and hopefully the college too will learn a lot from this about tackling the “hard problem” of helping people improve their grasp of maths.”

Citizen Maths – https://citizenmaths.com/ – is funded by the Ufi Charitable Trust, and has been developed with maths education specialists at the UCL Institute of Education, with the awarding body OCR, Calderdale College, and with advice from others in the FE sector. It can be accessed by more-or-less anyone with a computer and an internet connection.
