Teaching and Learning

Teaching and Learning is our priority. HELPP is an induction session for new teaching staff designed to support you in your new role, clarify our expectations and introduce you to the main teaching and learning systems used at HRC. If you have not already been given a date for this, please make contact with Ian Mathieson, Advanced Teaching and Learning Practitioner, who will arrange  to meet you, to deliver the training and discuss any other teaching and learning queries you may have. Ian can be contacted via email ( imathieson@hrc.ac.uk ) or phone (01992 411684).

Teaching qualifications

If you already have a teaching qualification, please ensure you have provided the necessary copy of your qualification to the HR team. If you do not have a teaching qualification we will be in contact with you again to make arrangements for you to obtain these.

English & Maths qualifications

During the course of your work, Maths and English skills are used daily. Most jobs need skills at or above level 2 [as a guide, level 2 is equivalent to GCSE A*-C]. If you already have Maths and English qualifications, please make sure copies of these have been provided to the HR team. If you do not have the qualifications, or you cannot locate your certificates, we will contact you again to make arrangements for you to obtain these qualifications.

IT skills

Most jobs also require use of IT systems and skills. During your departmental induction you will become more aware of the college systems you will be using. An overview of our IT  systems is included in the induction event.

Other professional development needs

Your line manager will discuss these with you as part of your meetings, probationary reviews and thereafter at appraisals.
