The Counselling Service offers free one-to-one counselling to all learners during term time.

What is Counselling?

We all go though difficult times. Counselling is an opportunity to talk with a professional counsellor in a safe and confidential way about what's going on for you.  It's a space to talk where you will be listened to respectfully, without interruption or judgement.  The student counselling video link below is an animation about counselling and some of the things people talk about in counselling.

Some of life's difficulties are long term, some happen unexpectedly and you might wonder what could ever make you feel better.  Talking really does help.  It's good to talk to friends and family but sometimes it helps to talk to someone outside of those circles.

Counsellors know it can be really hard to open up.  They will go at your pace until if feels safe to say what you need to say.  They take you seriously, do not judge and will listen hard to try to understand things from your point of view so that you can talk freely and openly.

A word about how private and confidential counselling is:

Counselling is highly confidential with only a few very extreme and rare exceptions according to the law. Even in these extreme circumstances, no information would shared with teachers, friends or family.  Your counsellor will discuss this with you and tell you more.

When you contact Counselling, you will be sent a form to complete and then you will be offered an appointment.
